Release Details

Shudder has scheduled the ninth entry in the V/H/S franchise, V/H/S Mixtape, to premiere on October 9. The film will be streamed exclusively on the platform, continuing the series’ tradition of presenting found-footage horror in an anthology format.

The V/H/S Anthology Series

The V/H/S brand launched in 2012 as a series of found-footage horror collections, each divided into separate segments that portray fictional terror as real recordings. To date, eight installments have been released, featuring contributions from directors such as Johannes Roberts, Gareth Evans, and Scott Derrickson. The upcoming ninth film follows this lineage while emphasizing a musical theme.

Music-Driven Creative Team

A roster of musicians and filmmakers will craft the new segments:

  • RZA (Wu-Tang Clan) – veteran filmmaker and composer, known for scoring *Kill Bill* and directing *The Man With the Iron Fists*.
  • Flying Lotus – will provide music-video interludes and direct a segment titled “Ash.”
  • Tobias Forge – frontman of Ghost, making his directorial debut with a music-video style segment.
  • Ernest Dickerson – director of *Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight*, contributing a segment.
  • Renee Zhan – creator of “O Black Hole!” and collaborator with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
  • David Moreau – will also direct a segment.
  • GWAR – the heavy-metal band will appear in the film.

Production and Thematic Focus

Producers Josh Goldbloom, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, Michael Schreiber, and Brad Miska oversee the project, with Ben Ross and Rami Yasin serving as executive producers. The film blends cosmic horror, psychological suspense, splatter, and practical effects into a single “mixtape of nightmares.”

Anticipated Audience Experience

By intertwining horror visuals with music-centric storytelling, V/H/S Mixtape aims to attract both genre fans and music enthusiasts. The combination of established horror directors and prominent musicians suggests a fresh, sensory-driven take on the franchise’s established formula, positioning the October 9 release as a notable event for streaming horror audiences.
