Dave Grohl’s Assistance to Reed Mullin
Corrosion of Conformity drummer Reed Mullin died at age 53 in January 2020. In a recent interview, bandmate Pepper Keenan disclosed that Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl had stepped in to help Mullin during his final health struggles. Keenan said Grohl offered to cover the cost of Mullin’s rehabilitation out of his own pocket, describing the gesture as “very kind.” The assistance, however, could not prevent Mullin’s decline, and Keenan noted that the band never knew the full extent of the drummer’s condition.
Mullin’s Health and Career Context
The drummer’s inability to overcome his challenges left the band uncertain about the future of their 2018 album *No Cross No Crown*, which ultimately became their last release with Mullin on drums.
Prior Collaboration in Teenage Time Killers
Grohl and Mullin had previously worked together in the 2014 supergroup Teenage Time Killers, which also featured Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor, former Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri, Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe, and Dead Kennedys founder Jello Biafra. Their debut album, *Teenage Time Killers: Greatest Hits Vol. 1*, was recorded at Grohl’s Studio 606 and released on July 28 2015.
Reflections on Mullin’s Legacy
Keenan reflected that when Mullin was at his peak, he was “an animal on the drums,” contributing significantly to the crossover metal scene. He added that the band now looks back on Mullin with “wonderful stories,” emphasizing the lasting impact of Mullin’s creativity and energy on the genre.
