Williams Companies and Chevron Corp. have highlighted the data-center market in recent earnings calls, indicating that they plan to broaden the gas-pipeline and power-plant projects currently under development for this sector. Projected Increase in U.S. Gas Production

A BloombergNEF report released last week projects that natural-gas demand in the United States could rise by 36 percent by the mid-2030s, with data-center consumption accounting for a substantial share of that growth.

Climate Implications of New Gas-Fired Plants

The two companies disclosed that five of the seven gas-fired power plants linked to data-center projects in their second-quarter results have permit applications indicating potential emissions of up to 21 million tons of greenhouse gases annually. That volume is roughly comparable to the total yearly emissions of Guatemala, though actual emissions could be lower than the permit estimates.
