Planned Agreements and Economic Targets
During the five-day tour, Vietnam and Australia are expected to sign 12-16 agreements covering education, digital transformation, agriculture and healthcare. Vietnam and New Zealand anticipate five-six agreements in similar sectors. Both governments have set trade-growth goals: bilateral trade with Australia is to reach $20 billion, while trade with New Zealand is targeted at $3 billion. Australia has also pledged nearly $65 million in development assistance for Vietnam for the 2026-27 fiscal year. Education links are strong, with more than 37,000 Vietnamese students currently enrolled in Australian institutions.

What’s Next
President To Lam will arrive in Canberra on August 11, 2026, where he will meet Albanese for the first time. He will then travel to Auckland to meet Luxon. The visit coincides with Australia’s national census night, during which the president is expected to complete the mandatory census form.
