Harassment Campaign Targets Nonbinary Teacher at Middle Creek Elementary

A nonbinary educator at Middle Creek Elementary School in Wake County, North Carolina, has become the focus of an online harassment campaign orchestrated by the far-right account Libs of TikTok and conservative influencers. A post featuring the teacher’s photo and the school principal’s email was viewed over 700,000 times on X and shared thousands of times, prompting a flood of inquiries to the Wake County School Board about the hiring of a transgender teacher.

The backlash follows broader cultural disputes in the state, including recent Republican proposals to require “gender-appropriate” clothing for school employees and the contentious “don’t say gay” law. Libs of TikTok, founded by Chaya Raichik, has previously spread anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and attracted national attention. In this instance, the campaign amplified concerns from parents who claim the teacher’s presence raises “parental rights” issues, alleging that elementary students are now being asked about sex, gender identity, and pronouns.
