Historical Context

In the 1980s the Supreme Team, led by Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff and Gerald “Prince” Miller, ran a crack empire from Jamaica’s Baisley Park Projects, earning over $200,000 a day at its 1987 peak. A joint NYPD-FBI raid that year seized cocaine, weapons and documents, leading to prosecutions that ended with McGriff’s life sentence in 2007. These sweeps foreshadowed the city’s later 1990s crack-trade crackdowns.
