Bridgette Wrona and the Whisper Creek Murders Wraps Filming in Texas

The film follows Bridgette Wrona, a 20-something host of the true-crime podcast “Hot Coffee, Cold Cases,” as she investigates the resurgence of a dormant serial killer known as The Flower King in the remote East Texas town of Whisper Creek. The story is positioned as a teen-oriented “Twin Peaks” that blends genre horror with a coming-of-age tone.

The feature is directed by Mary Beth McAndrews, who described the project as an entry into “Weird Girl Cinema.” The screenplay was written by Preston Fassel, based on a concept by Cameron Hazelwood. Amanda Huerta, discovered through Little Spark’s “48-Hour Spark” competition, headlines the cast. Supporting actors include Lisa Gaye, Kelli Maroney, Alexandra Broussard, and Larissa Dali. Executive producers are Joe Manco and Chris Rushing; producers Catalina Querida and Larissa Dali also serve in that capacity, while Fassel is credited as associate producer. Robert “Ghoulio” Alcala is the director of photography.

Fassel explained that the project reflects his desire to create a YA story reminiscent of classics such as *Tuck Everlasting* and *Bridge to Terabithia*, offering a “thoughtful approach” that could introduce younger audiences to genre filmmaking. The production’s press release highlighted the rapid development of Huerta’s involvement, citing her performance in a 48-Hour film race as a key factor in casting.
