Alphabet announced a re-organization of its AI division. Sir Demis Hassabis, co-founder of DeepMind, will step down from day-to-day management of Google DeepMind, becoming chair of the lab and chief scientist of Alphabet. DeepMind was acquired by Google in 2014 and merged with Google Brain in 2023 to form Google DeepMind, a unit that delivered AlphaGo and AlphaFold.
