Asobi: Remote Play Brings PS Plus Premium Cloud Gaming to Steam Deck and Linux Devices

The third-party app Asobi: Remote Play lets owners of the Steam Deck, Steam Machine and other Linux-based hardware stream PlayStation Plus Premium titles directly from Sony’s servers. Users must sign in with a PlayStation Network account and maintain an active PS Plus Premium subscription. The app can launch games that are part of the subscription catalog as well as digital PS5 purchases that the user already owns, though not every title is guaranteed to be streamable.

The free configuration streams at 1080p 30 fps in SDR with automatic bitrate adjustment. The paid Asobi Premium package unlocks higher quality options: 1080p 60 fps with HDR, manual bitrate control, low-lag modes, controller haptic feedback, and upscaling to 4K 60 fps. These premium features are offered at no cost for the duration of the open playtest; pricing for the full release has not been announced.

The app is developed by the independent studio Inside Internet (also referenced as developer Ichenzo) and has no official affiliation with Sony Interactive Entertainment, Valve or Steam. Ichenzo announced the public playtest on the app’s subreddit, stating that all premium features are unlocked until the full release appears on the Steam Store. A Windows version is described as “coming soonish,” while a dedicated operating-system build is also planned.

Sony’s PS Portal provides the same cloud-streaming capability via PS Plus Premium, allowing gameplay without a PS5 console. The Portal is currently priced at £220, positioning Asobi’s free playtest as a cost-free alternative for Steam Deck users.
