New Dystopian Film “Lost Objects” Announced
Veteran Brazilian actor Maria Fernanda Cândido is set to headline “Lost Objects,” a modern dystopian fable directed by Luiz Fernando Carvalho. Production has already begun under Academia de Filmes, a company within the INK Studios ecosystem. The story follows a couple whose love collapses during a blackout, leaving them to wander fragmented urban landscapes in search of connection. Carvalho has labeled the project “chemical fiction,” positioning it as a dialogue with science-fiction themes that explore love as a disappearing substance on Earth.
Cândido and Carvalho’s Longstanding Collaboration
The pairing marks the second film in a 24-year creative partnership that began with “The Passion According to G.H.,” an adaptation of Clarice Lispector’s novel that premiered to acclaim in Rotterdam and enjoyed a strong festival circuit. Cândido has described the two works as a diptych, noting that “Lost Objects” continues the enchanted, literary-driven aesthetic they cultivated together.
Production Team and Cast
In addition to Cândido, the ensemble includes theatre veteran André Frateschi, newcomer Marcela Vivan Russo, and French actor Maurice Durozier. Earlier this year, a career retrospective of Carvalho’s work was hosted by the Brooklyn Academy of Music, featuring the North American premiere of “The Passion According to G.H.”
Gramado Film Festival Honor
Cândido is slated to receive the Crystal Kikito award at the Gramado Film Festival, which begins on August 12 in the Brazilian southern town. The honor recognizes his decades-long contribution to Brazilian and international cinema, joining Selton Mello as the festival’s first dual recipients of the award this year.
