Lucy Liu Joins Sci-Fi Short “Reset” as Executive Producer

Lucy Liu, known for roles in *Charlie’s Angels* and *Kill Bill*, has signed on as executive producer for Reset, a science-fiction dramedy created by writer-directors Celine Tien and Jerry Hsu. The short film, which premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival, is now being expanded into a feature-length project, with Liu attached to executive-produce both versions through the production company SPL Max.

Set in a near-future society where citizens are physically “reset” to six years old at age 65, *Reset* follows a young woman tasked with caring for her newly reset mother while searching for an estranged father before state authorities intervene. The narrative explores intergenerational trauma, karma, and empathy. The short stars Olivia Liang (*The CW’s Kung Fu*) and Sam Song Li (*Netflix’s The Brothers Sun*) and was awarded the Silver Audience Award for Best International Short Film at Fantasia.

Liu expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting that supporting *Reset* has been a “true joy” and emphasizing the power of storytelling. Tien and Hsu explained that the film draws on their families’ lived experiences to examine how trauma and empathy are passed across generations, asking whether anyone truly “grows up.”

The creative team reports that the feature adaptation of *Reset* is “in active development.” Executive producers alongside Liu include Branton Choi (formerly of the Russo brothers’ AGBO), Eva Li Hsieh, Care.com founder Sheila Marcelo, Trip.com founder James Liang, and Adam Marcelo. Julien Soros produced the short, with cinematography by Charles Xiuzhi Dong.
