The closure followed statements from former managing director Sean Coughlan, who described the combined effect of increased national insurance costs and elevated business rates as “absolutely smashing” local enterprises. Ranganathan, a vegan and native of Crawley, had become involved with Coughlans because of its plant-based product range but confirmed he would not participate in the new venture. He previously expressed that he was “gutted” by the chain’s shutdown.
