John Oliver’s “Buc-Off” Shop Targets Buc-ee’s Litigation Tactics

Texas-based convenience-store chain Buc-ee’s has built a reputation for aggressively defending its animal-mascot branding. On his July 27 show of *Last Week Tonight*, host John Oliver highlighted the chain’s history of filing “over a dozen lawsuits” against small businesses with wildlife-themed logos, noting that most opponents settle or redesign rather than contest the suits. Oliver warned that the pattern could eventually attract a challenger with sufficient resources.

Oliver debuted an online merchandise store, the “Buc-Off Shop,” featuring the *Last Week Tonight* squirrel mascot Mr. Nutterbutter on apparel, stickers and umbrellas. The shop’s catalog will remain available until September 8, 2026. Oliver announced that the campaign has already raised “almost half a million dollars” for the charity.
