Announcement and Core Details
Microsoft’s Xbox division announced two limited-edition wireless controllers tied to the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day launch. Both controllers are marketed as hardware tributes to the “Emergence Day” storyline that pits humanity’s COG against the Locust Horde.
Design, Compatibility and Accessories
The standard edition features a battle-worn aesthetic: 3D-molded, laser-etched grips resembling cracked asphalt, red-glowing fissures that expose a “Crimson Omen,” blacked-out ABXY buttons, a transparent red X button, red triggers, and a transparent D-pad. A dark-silver metallic COG tag adorns the battery door. The Design Lab variant adds a silver skull atop crossed Chainsaw Lancers, with optional metallic triggers, rubberized side and back grips, and personalized engraving. Both models are compatible with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10/11 PCs, and mobile devices. An accompanying 8BitDo Ultimate Charging Dock—compatible with Xbox One and Series X/S controllers—offers magnetic alignment, drop-and-charge capability, and over-charge protection.
Pricing and Purchase Options
Xbox’s official release states the limited-edition controller retails for $89.99 and can be pre-ordered through Xbox.com, the Microsoft Store, and other participating retailers. Starting September 30, fans may design their own controller using Design Lab, which incorporates artwork by heavy-metal illustrator Luke Preece.
Upcoming Public Display and Game Release
Both controllers will be showcased for the first time at the Xbox booth at Gamescom 2026, where attendees can also try the playable debut of Gears of War: E-Day. The game itself is scheduled for release on October 6 for PC and Xbox Series X/S and is confirmed as a console exclusive, meaning it will not launch on PlayStation.
