Funding Shortfall Threatens Incumbent Cory Mills Ahead of Florida GOP Primary

Incumbent Rep. Cory Mills, first elected in 2022, is confronting a “rocky tenure” marked by a Congressional ethics committee probe and a reported U.S. Department of Justice investigation. He has also been accused of misrepresenting his military record, unethical business dealings, assault, and stalking. Despite these allegations, Mills retains a presidential endorsement from Donald Trump, a factor highlighted by some analysts as a potential advantage in the heavily Republican 7th district.

Federal Elections Commission filings through July 29 show Mills raised less than $16,000 in July and has $67,644 remaining in his campaign account. By contrast, primary challenger Ryan Elijah raised $54,293 in the same month and reports a war chest of $186,154. A Victory Insights poll released last week placed Mills at 28 % of likely Republican primary voters, with Elijah at 22 %. Two additional candidates, Michael Don Johnson and Sarah Ulrich, remain in the race but trail the front-runners.
