Tel Aviv University Launches Youth Leadership Initiative

Program Structure and Participation
The Tel Aviv University (TAU) Aurion Young Leadership Working Group, chaired by TAU alumnus Ran Fhurer, designed a year-long program delivered through the university’s Youth University. The initiative is funded by Bezeq, Israel’s largest telecommunications group, where Fhurer serves on the board representing the controlling shareholder. Approximately 90 high-school students enrolled, coming from a wide geographic cross-section of Israel—including Be’er Sheva, Sderot, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Netivot, Lod, Ramla, Tiberias, Nahariya, Karmiel, Dabburiya, Yanuh-Jat, Migdal HaEmek, Kiryat Malakhi and the Tel Aviv area.
Educational Content and Culminating Event
Throughout the academic year participants attended university-level social-science courses such as Political Philosophy, examining leadership, democracy, responsibility and decision-making. The program emphasized dialogue among students from diverse communities to promote critical thinking and collaboration. The year concluded with a joint leadership event featuring a lecture by Prof. Udi Sommer of TAU’s School of Political Science on “Leadership in the Trump Era,” followed by interactive workshops led by Hazanek La'Atid (The Future Initiative). In teams, students devised practical social initiatives aimed at challenges facing young people while honing teamwork, creative thinking and public-speaking skills.

Ran Fhurer, who also holds the position of Vice President of Business Development at Neopharm Group, urged participants to view leadership as a means of creating opportunities for others. He emphasized that true leadership involves investing in people, opening doors and sharing knowledge rather than waiting for permission to lead.

Organizers hope the initiative will deepen participants’ understanding of Israel’s diverse social realities, strengthen civic engagement, and equip young people with the skills needed to initiate community-focused projects.
