- Services between London Liverpool Street and Southend Victoria were cancelled, leaving the Wickford-Southend line blocked.
- A Southern Rail train overturned near Lewes, East Sussex on 13 August 2026, injuring two and evacuating about 150 passengers.
- John Lawrence of the IET Railway Technical Network said extreme heat could cause rail buckling, possibly contributing to both derailments.
