He spent several weeks unconscious on life support while his children were in Switzerland, fearing he might not survive. After being discharged and readmitted, Collins required a 24-hour live-in nurse to manage medication and ultimately spent seven months in treatment. He also disclosed that he has undergone five knee operations and now uses crutches because of drop-foot, a nerve-damage condition that impairs walking.

He is also preparing a 45th-anniversary reissue of his debut solo album *Face Value*. The expanded 4-LP box set, featuring half-speed masters, demos, outtakes and unreleased live recordings, is scheduled for release on September 18.

In the Prog interview, Collins stressed that his sobriety and physical regimen have restored his confidence in the studio. He expressed a willingness to “mess about” in his home studio and finish unfinished material, while acknowledging that his voice would need conditioning for a full-scale concert. He also clarified that the Hall of Fame ceremony demands “match-fit” preparation, which he does not yet meet.
