Incident Overview

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police (IMPD) are investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in downtown Indianapolis. Officers patrolling near the intersection of East South Street and South Meridian Street reported hearing multiple gunshots at approximately 3:45 a.m. When they arrived, they found two men with gunshot wounds; both victims were reported as stable.

Police Response and Detentions

Police said officers observed several individuals fleeing the area, including a person visibly holding a firearm. That individual was detained on the scene. A nearby vehicle, which contained a woman, was searched and a second gun was recovered near the car. In total, IMPD detained four people while detectives continue to assess each person’s possible involvement in the shooting.

Evidence Recovered

Investigators located four firearms across the block. One gun was seized from the detained suspect, another was found near the searched vehicle, and two additional weapons were discovered inside a trash can close to the downtown White Castle restaurant. The recovered weapons have been entered into evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Investigation Status

Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and witness statements to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the roles of the detained individuals. No arrests beyond the initial detentions have been announced, and IMPD has not released further details about motives or potential connections to other incidents. The department indicated that the investigation remains active and that updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
