USS Abraham Lincoln’s Prolonged Deployment Sparks Congressional and Public Scrutiny

Twelve members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, led by Ranking Member Senator Jack Reed, sent a formal letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth requesting written answers to twelve questions about the ship’s living conditions, morale, mental-health assessments, and the strategic necessity of the deployment. The signatories include Senators Gary C. Peters, Jeanne Shaheen, Mark Kelly, Tim Kaine, Patty Murray, Richard Blumenthal, Mazie K. Hirono, Tammy Duckworth, Elissa Slotkin, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Angus S. King Jr. Senator Blumenthal separately gave the Navy until August 27 to provide a detailed response on supply shortages, water contamination, and the overall mission objective.
