Senator Jon Ossoff Blasts President Trump Over Iran War and Financial Dealings

At a mid-town Atlanta rally on Sunday, Democratic senator Jon Ossoff denounced President Donald Trump’s handling of the U.S.–Israel war on Iran. Ossoff accused the president of “re-rigging” a corrupt system for personal gain and highlighted the “record-setting” nine-month deployment of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, noting concerns about crew conditions and mental health. He linked the war to what he described as “lies” and “crooked” profiteering by the president and his family.

The rally took place as the United States continues to support Israel in its conflict with Iran, a stance that has drawn criticism from some members of Congress. Trump has previously suggested the Lincoln’s deployment was “not long enough,” a comment Ossoff used to underscore the contrast between frontline service members and the president’s alleged disengagement. Ossoff, who is seeking re-election in Georgia in November, framed his criticism as part of a broader challenge to “coin-operated” politics and the influence of political-action committees.

Ossoff pointed to two recent actions by Trump that he said illustrate personal profiteering from public policy. First, the president is scheduled to post on Truth Social on April 9, after which he allegedly purchased millions of dollars in stock. Second, on August 1 Trump launched a subscription service charging up to $100,000 a month for early access to his Truth Social posts. The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation have filed a lawsuit against Trump, two aides, and the executive office over the service.
