Rockies Designate Michael Lorenzen, Recall Reliever TJ Shook

The Colorado Rockies designated right-hander Michael Lorenzen for assignment on Monday, removing him from the 40-man roster. The club simultaneously recalled right-hander TJ Shook from Triple-A Albuquerque to fill the vacant spot.

Lorenzen entered the season on a one-year contract signed in January. He has posted a 3-11 win-loss record with a 7.08 ERA and has not earned a victory since June 27. The 34-year-old previously struck out a career-high 127 batters in 141 2/3 innings for the Kansas City Royals. To replace him in the rotation, the Rockies promoted Tanner Gordon, who has appeared in 17 games (five starts) with a 5.55 ERA. Shook, a 28-year-old Rule 5 draft pick from the New York Mets, has logged four appearances for Colorado this year, posting a 9.53 ERA over 5 2/3 innings, and recorded 11 saves for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes.

Schaeffer also described Shook’s flexibility, stating the reliever “accepts that with vigor” and can serve in multiple roles.
