Two prominent Trump-branded merchandise stores announced they will close in 2026. The larger outlet near Knoxville, Tennessee, on Interstate 40, is shutting after owner William “Bill” Hays said dwindling traffic forces the decision. A second location in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, operated by Mike Domanico, also cited slower sales since the 2024 presidential election as the reason for ending operations. Both owners note that the surge in enthusiasm that drove sales during the 2024 campaign has largely disappeared.

The Knoxville store became a roadside attraction with oversized Trump signs and a “Democrat Superstore” brick outhouse display. It, along with the Bensalem shop, emerged during the 2020 election cycle and expanded after the 2024 campaign, even seeing spikes after the July 2024 assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. However, broader retail trends in 2026—inflation and shifting consumer habits—have compounded the slowdown for politically themed brick-and-mortar venues.

Hays told Newsweek that retirement or a move to Florida were not factors; he emphasized that the closure is driven by “lack of business.” An employee identified as Dan corroborated the assessment, noting that the store “isn’t busy anymore” and that economic pressures and waning enthusiasm are affecting sales.

Trump-themed retail still exists in Gatlinburg, Tennessee; North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and the flagship Trump Store inside Trump Tower in New York.
