A confrontation erupted, during which Peretz and Barberman—two of Dayan’s companions—claimed they were both struck and that Dayan was beaten. The three then entered a vehicle and attempted to leave the scene. Peretz reported that a member of the opposing group clung to the windshield, leading the trio to fear they had run the person over and that police were already pursuing them. The group continued to the Paz gas station at Yarkon Junction, where Peretz bought a bottle of water for Dayan. Security-camera footage from the station shows the three leaving together and heading toward an open area.
