Warmer seas also raise humidity and overnight temperatures on adjacent land, potentially intensifying storms later in the year.

Claire Bergin of Maynooth University explained that the WWA team used peer-reviewed attribution methods to isolate the contribution of greenhouse-gas emissions—primarily from fossil-fuel combustion—to the observed heat. The World Meteorological Organization notes that global average temperatures are now about 1.4 °C above pre-industrial levels, a baseline that amplifies the intensity of high-pressure systems responsible for heatwaves.
