Ewan McGregor Pushes for New Obi-Wan Kenobi Story

At the Variety Lounge during the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Scottish actor Ewan McGregor said he has taken several story ideas for his “Star Wars” character to Lucasfilm chief Dave Filoni. McGregor explained that, after the events of *Episode III*, Obi-Wan would be traveling to the far reaches of the galaxy and could eventually seek out Yoda, who is “somewhere else.” He also floated the possibility of a romance between Obi-Wan and New Republic general Hera Syndulla, a character portrayed by Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the series *Ahsoka*. McGregor emphasized that “time doesn’t really mean anything” across the franchise’s multiverses, but noted that Obi-Wan and Hera exist in different time frames.

The actor’s ideas emerged while Filoni was filming *Ahsoka*, which features Winstead as Hera. The series expands the timeline after the fall of the Empire, a period in which Obi-Wan’s whereabouts have been largely unexplored on screen. McGregor’s proposals therefore aim to fill that narrative gap and connect the character to other newly introduced figures.

Dave Filoni told Variety on the D23 red carpet that a “Hunt for Ben Solo” movie is currently not in development, indicating that no new Obi-Wan-focused feature is officially slated. He also highlighted his personal satisfaction with relocating to Perthshire, Scotland, where he now lives with his family.

Beyond the “Star Wars” discussion, McGregor shared that his five-year-old son will grow up in the same Scottish region where he now resides. He described the ease of traveling by Vespa to visit family and expressed enthusiasm for an upcoming stage adaptation of Harry Macqueen’s film *Supernova* at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre, where he will appear alongside Alan Cumming.
