Core Event – Trailer Release

Game Science has published a 15-minute gameplay trailer for its upcoming action role-playing title Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The video, which contains no spoken dialogue, follows a new, unnamed protagonist as he navigates a tranquil seaside, explores a cave, and confronts a series of increasingly complex combat encounters.

Gameplay Overview – Exploration and Enemy Encounters

The trailer opens with the protagonist stumbling onto a beach, meeting an elderly man who is eating meat. After building a raft together, a massive wave disrupts their plan, prompting the hero to continue on foot. He carries the old man on his back while battling a pack of ghoulish foes, then faces a larger enemy whose sword ignites in flame. The protagonist parries the fiery attack and lands a killing blow, followed by a cinematic finisher.

Later, the old man transforms into a swirling collection of leaves that leads the hero to a lake. There, the protagonist discovers a woman's corpse before being driven away by hostile creatures. A winged humanoid boss appears, shedding its wings before entering a second phase. A mysterious ally—represented by the floating leaves—joins the fight, allowing the hero to electrify his sword and execute a rapid series of parries and strikes. After the boss retreats toward the water, the woman from the lake reappears with a demonic grin, attacks the creature, and drags it underwater.

Combat Mechanics – Parry, Elements, and Fluidity

The trailer emphasizes realistic swordplay, highlighting clean parry and dodge animations that feel weighty and responsive. The protagonist alternates between a standard sword, a fire-infused blade, and an electrified weapon, suggesting that elemental choices may influence combat outcomes. A fire bomb is also shown igniting terrain and enemies, after which the hero absorbs the flames into his sword for additional attacks.

Visual Design – World and Atmosphere

Environmental details include gentle breezes moving foliage, rain-soaked battlefields, and a lake that transitions to an underwater chase. The trailer also offers brief glimpses of fantastical creatures, a skeleton band accompanying the hero, and a final scene of the protagonist riding a tiger-like animal across the landscape.

Official Description – Game Science’s Vision

When Black Myth: Zhong Kui was announced at Opening Night Live the previous year, Game Science described it as a single-player action RPG rooted in the classic Chinese folktale “Zhong Kui Banishing Evil.” The studio said the title will deliver distinctive experiences, push technical limits, and introduce fresh ideas to address past flaws and regrets. The trailer provides the first concrete look at how those ambitions translate into gameplay and visual storytelling.
