Historical Context

After Israel seized parts of the 1949 Israel-Syria demilitarized zone and launched a pre-emptive strike on June 5-10 1967, it occupied the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. The UNRWA later counted about 800,000 Palestinian refugees, and Israel earmarked 1 billion shekels for settlements by 1975. Today those policies have displaced 107 Palestinian villages, affecting 5,900 people.
