Man Arrested for Public Indecency at Newcastle Burger King

On the morning of February 18 at about 11 a.m., staff at the Burger King located in Newcastle Central Station observed a 30-year-old man, identified as Same Alkfuv, rubbing his groin with both hands for roughly five to ten seconds. The incident occurred in a dining area that was occupied by a woman and five or six children during the half-term school break.

The Burger King manager reported the behaviour to police, and London North Eastern Railway (LNER) staff helped locate Alkfuv. Officers arrived, arrested him, and discovered cocaine in his possession. Neil Jones, the prosecuting counsel, told Newcastle Crown Court that Alkfuv had been asked to leave the premises but refused, prompting the police call. Jones described the act as a brief, inappropriate gesture directed toward Alkfuv’s groin.

During police questioning, Alkfuv claimed he had fallen asleep with his hands in his lap while at the restaurant. He denied intentionally touching himself, stating he could not remember whether his hands had gone down his trousers and that he might have done so while dozing. Alkfuv also said he was sleeping rough, suggested a third party had placed the drugs in his pocket, and argued he lacked money for food, so he would not have purchased cocaine.

Alkfuv pleaded guilty to outraging public decency and to possession of cocaine. After spending roughly four months on remand, Judge Robert Adams imposed a 12-month conditional discharge. The judge indicated the type of sentence he intended before sentencing, and no mitigation or background information about Alkfuv’s circumstances was presented in court.
