Deadline reports that Michael Showalter will direct a contemporary version of the 2001 romantic-comedy *Serendipity* for Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with Miramax. The screenplay is being written by Marc Klein, who authored the original film, and casting is currently underway.

The project will be produced by Showalter and Jordana Mollick through Semi-Formal Productions, which operates under a multi-year first-look deal with Amazon MGM. Simon Fields, a producer of the 2001 version, also joins as a producer. Executive producers for Miramax include Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy and Thom Zadra, with Arianna D’Andrea overseeing Miramax’s side. Emily Crook is managing the effort for Semi-Formal, while Peter Chelsom is attached as director of the original film, which starred John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale.
