Fortnite Launches Chapter 7 Season 4 “Override”

8/22/2026, 1:52:32 AM

New Gameplay Mechanics

Fortnite’s Chapter 7 Season 4, titled “Override,” adds “Override Consoles” that appear in every match and let the controlling player rewrite server-wide rules. The console’s operator is displayed on its pedestal, making the holder visible to all opponents. “Squad Overrides” grant exclusive buffs to the first squad that secures them, while also revealing that squad’s location on the map. The season also reintroduces Sprites, now usable in a “Sprite Garden” mode where players can showcase collections and convert captured Sprite Dust into “Chest Hacks” that customize chest loot with bonus items unavailable elsewhere.

Cross-Franchise Collaborations

The season celebrates more than four decades of gaming history, featuring characters and items from Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Kingdom Hearts, Persona 5 Royal, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, and others. Highlights include Sonic’s “Power Sneakers” for spin-dash movement, the Tails Sprite for aerial hover, Mega Man’s “Mega Buster” arm cannon, and a “Tetris Rift” that creates cover fire. Later releases will add the Kingdom Hearts “Kingdom Key,” dual-wielded weapons from Cyberpunk, and outfits tied to each franchise.

Battle Pass Incentives

Players who purchase the Battle Pass before 12:59 PM on August 28 will receive the “Infiltrator Grace Crowne” outfit and accessories as a launch-week exclusive. Gifting the Battle Pass during the season awards both sender and recipient the “Peril Peak Mali” outfit set.

Official Commentary

Takashi Iizuka, Sonic Creative Officer at Sega of America, explained the partnership: he said Sonic’s legacy of speed and excitement aligns with Epic Games, and that the collaboration was designed to bring authentic franchise movement and energy into Fortnite. He noted that Sonic, Knuckles, and Shadow will appear as Android versions, while Tails and Dr. Eggman will retain their classic designs.

Additional Details

Further information on new and unvaulted weapons, balance changes, and bug fixes is available on Fortnite’s official blog and the Override community update notes. The season’s rollout of collaboration items will occur sequentially in the in-game Item Shop.
