Socialist Senate Nominee Angie's Campaign Against Charlie Kirk Memorial Bill

State Rep. Angie Nixon (D-FL), a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, publicly denounced a Florida Senate resolution honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, built a college-campus political network that supported former President Donald Trump. After his murder, Republican lawmakers Sen. Rick Scott and Sen. Jimmy Patronis introduced resolutions to honor him, prompting Nixon’s backlash.

Nixon’s opposition centered on Kirk’s record of “homophobic, antisemitic, misogynistic…[and] hateful” remarks toward Black people, which she said were “cloaked in scripture.” She further claimed the Florida Legislature tolerated “hate and cruelty,” labeling it “anti-Black” and “anti-Muslim.”
