Sequence of the Pursuit
Around mid-morning on a Friday, a black 2025 Honda Accord driven by a man wanted in a burglary investigation left the 101 Freeway and entered surface streets in the San Fernando Valley. Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) units followed the vehicle, which repeatedly exited and re-entered the 405 Freeway, performed a U-turn, and at one point traveled northbound against traffic. The suspect stopped briefly at a gas station near Nordhoff Street and Aqueduct Avenue before the chase resumed.
Civilian Motorcyclist Intervenes
During the pursuit, a motorcyclist rode alongside the sedan, gestured toward the driver, and attempted to open the passenger-side door at an intersection. The rider then continued alongside the line of police vehicles as the chase entered a parking structure on the California State University, Northridge campus and later emerged onto city streets.
Final Crash and Arrest
After more than an hour of pursuit, the Honda’s rear tire blew out—likely after contact with a spike strip—and the vehicle collided head-on with a California Highway Patrol (CHP) SUV on the 405 Freeway. The crash occurred near Granada Hills. The suspect fled the scene on foot, ran down an embankment, and was subsequently taken into custody by several officers. No serious injuries were reported.
Law-Enforcement Response
LAPD officials indicated the driver was a burglary suspect and that the pursuit was maintained despite low speeds for most of the event because the suspect repeatedly evaded traffic controls and entered the freeway wrong-way. CHP confirmed that its patrol SUV was struck in the final collision and that officers assisted in securing the suspect.
