International Missions in 2023

In Venezuela, ZAKA search-and-rescue experts, engineers, paramedics and humanitarian workers collaborated with local authorities and other international teams, supplying satellite imagery, GIS mapping, structural analysis and operational planning. The group also assisted after the terror attack in Sydney, contributed to the catastrophic fire in Switzerland, and supported the response to the deadly Bowie plane crash in Maryland through its newly re-established North American unit. ZAKA stresses that these deployments were intended to strengthen existing local responses rather than replace them.
Emphasis on Preparedness
ZAKA’s leadership argues that effective emergency response hinges on long-term preparation. Equipment, trained personnel, communications systems and logistical capacity must be in place before an incident occurs; they cannot be assembled after sirens sound. The organization points to the 20th anniversary of its Dive Team as evidence that two decades of training and operational experience enable rapid activation when water-recovery tasks exceed ordinary capabilities. Preparedness, they note, is largely invisible—training exercises, idle equipment and pre-established relationships go unnoticed until a disaster tests them.
