Dolly Parton Explores Avatar Performances While Managing Ongoing Health Issues

Dolly Parton, 80, disclosed that she and her team have entered early discussions with companies that create “avatar performances.” The technology, which she described only as being in the “early stages of development,” is being considered as she continues to address health concerns that have limited her public appearances this year.

Parton’s health challenges have led to a series of postponed and canceled engagements. A planned Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace was first moved from December 2025 to September 2026 before being cancelled outright in May. Subsequent 2026 commitments, such as the Academy of Country Music’s Poet’s Award and the dedication of Dollywood’s NightFlight Expedition ride in mid-August, were fulfilled virtually. She has not undertaken a traditional tour since 2016. In March, during her first in-person appearance of the year at Dollywood, she described feeling “worn down and worn out” from grief after the March 2025 death of her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, and said she needed to rebuild “spiritually, emotionally and physically.”

In an interview with People published in August, Parton explained that the health issues she is facing were not fully attended to while caring for her late husband. She noted that the intensity of public scrutiny has increased in the current “24/7 world with social media,” adding that while she is still healing, she remains committed to working.
