Israel Launches “Program 720” to Embed AI Across K-12 Schools

Israel’s Education Ministry is rolling out “Program 720,” an initiative that integrates artificial-intelligence tools into public schools nationwide. The system will be powered by major AI providers—including Microsoft, Google, and Amazon—and is required to meet the ministry’s strict security, privacy, accessibility and other regulatory standards. The AI platform combines “central” data aggregation with “agentic” functions that handle day-to-day tasks such as attendance, progress monitoring and dynamic adjustment of content, pace and learning pathways.

A pilot conducted during the 2025 school year involved 28 schools. The next phase will extend the program to 180 schools, with an additional 300 schools expressing interest in future adoption. The rollout is designed to cover the full spectrum of Israel’s education system—from northern to southern districts—and to serve Arab, Bedouin, Haredi, Religious Zionist and general-education institutions. The platform will be offered in both Hebrew and Arabic, and the ministry plans to refine culturally appropriate support throughout the 2026-2027 school year.

Program 720 operates under Israel’s National AI Regulatory Sandbox, which permits rapid innovation while enforcing safety and curriculum integrity. Companies must deliver “scalable, adaptive personalized learning capabilities” rather than isolated functions. All participating applications are cloud-based web services, a design chosen to uphold high standards of information security, system maintenance, reliability and continuous updates. In the event of connectivity loss or hardware failure, limited local operation ensures teaching can continue without cloud access.

Deputy Director-General and Head of the Innovation and Technology Administration, Meirav Zerbib, explained that the sandbox model enables swift iteration without disrupting students or curricula. She emphasized that the AI agents will monitor progress, take attendance and update individual goals, while the system can adjust instructional material in real time. Zerbib also noted that the architecture allows schools to keep learning active even during temporary network outages.
