History

Historical Context

After Israel seized Hebron in 1967, the 1997 Hebron Agreement divided the city into Palestinian-run H1 and Israeli-controlled H2, home to about 700 settlers among 30,000 Palestinians. The 1994 Cave of the Patriarchs massacre by Baruch Goldstein killed 29 Palestinians and wounded 125, prompting international outcry and curfews. The present blockade of Loui Ridi’s home echoes that legacy of settler intimidation.
