Royal Commission Delays Final Report to Avoid Bondi Anniversary Distraction

Commissioner Virginia Bell announced a four-day extension of the deadline for the Royal Commission into antisemitism and social cohesion. The letters patent require the final report to be handed to government no later than December 14, 2027, the first anniversary of the Bondi Beach terror attack. Bell said she will submit the report a few days after that date to prevent the findings from eclipsing the solemn commemorations.

On December 14, 2025, two gunmen allegedly inspired by Islamic State opened fire on Jewish Australians celebrating Chanukah at Bondi Beach, killing 15 people.
