Cardinals Shift Roster After Masyn Winn’s Thumb Injury

The St. Louis Cardinals placed shortstop Masyn Winn on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a broken left thumb while sliding into second base against Cincinnati. The move is retroactive to the previous Saturday, and the club recalled infielder Nolan Gorman from Triple-A Memphis to fill the vacancy. Gorman entered the Tuesday lineup as the Cardinals opened a series versus Baltimore.

Winn, the reigning National League Gold Glove shortstop, is batting .238 with five home runs and 51 RBIs. He also leads the league with 317 assists and 86 double plays turned. Gorman began the season as the Cardinals’ third baseman but was optioned to Memphis in early June after posting a .194 average with seven homers and 26 RBIs. In Triple-A, he has hit .182 overall, yet his power has resurfaced with seven homers in 63 at-bats this month.
