Transfer Agreement in Principle
Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement in principle for the 23-year-old French winger, with reports indicating a base fee of €117 million that could rise to €140 million through bonuses. The clubs are finalising the remaining details on Thursday morning, according to the latest coverage.
Background on Barcola and His PSG Tenure
Barcola entered PSG in August 2023 from Lyon for €45 million and has spent two seasons with the French champions. He has two years left on his contract but has signalled he does not wish to extend, leading to his omission from the match-day squad for PSG’s 2-2 Ligue 1 opening draw with Rennes. Primarily a left-winger who can also operate on the opposite flank, he competed for minutes with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doué during the 2025-26 campaign.
Financial Details and Performance Statistics
In the 2025-26 season Barcola made 49 appearances for PSG, contributing 13 goals and seven assists as the club retained the Ligue 1 title and added further European silverware. Since breaking into the first team in 2021-22, he has amassed 39 goals and 37 assists across 152 matches. The proposed transfer would represent the largest sale in PSG’s history.
Official Negotiation Process
Negotiations are being overseen by Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon.
Potential Impact on Liverpool’s Attack
Analyst Gregg Evans notes that Liverpool have been seeking a forward to replace Mohamed Salah and that Barcola’s “direct and purposeful play” could provide the pace and width the club have lacked this summer. The arrival may also influence the market for Cody Gakpo, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City. If the deal proceeds, manager Arne Iraola would gain a versatile winger to support a more front-foot style of play.
