Obama Headlines New York Fundraiser for House Democrats

Former President Barack Obama will appear alongside House Minority Leader Hakeen Jeffries at a reception and dinner in New York City intended to benefit the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). The event is scheduled for early September, coinciding with the Republican Party’s two-day midterm convention in Dallas. Sources familiar with the private gathering say the fundraiser will be held behind closed doors.

Money is a top concern for both parties as the 2026 midterm elections approach. The DCCC entered August with $80.2 million in its treasury, while the National Republican Congressional Committee reported $92.4 million. President Trump’s super-PAC, MAGA Inc., holds more than $400 million but has not disclosed its spending plans for the upcoming cycle. The DCCC has raised slightly more money overall this election cycle than its Republican counterpart.

In addition to the New York fundraiser, Obama is slated to headline a separate event on Martha’s Vineyard for the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, a group focused on congressional map reforms. Earlier in the year, he recorded a basketball-themed video with Senate nominee Josh Turek of Iowa and made public appearances with Democratic Senate candidates in Texas and Michigan. A prior fundraiser with Jeffries in late 2025 in Los Angeles raised $2 million, according to a person familiar with that event.
