Police Raid Linked to Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Son Results in Weapons Arrest

Minneapolis police executed a search warrant at an apartment shared by Rep. Ilhan Omar’s son (identified only as Adnan) and his roommate Abdulrahman Abdi, 22. Law-enforcement sources said guns and ammunition were recovered from the unit. Abdi was arrested on a weapons charge, booked into Hennepin County Jail, and released the following night. The police department confirmed Abdi’s arrest but did not verify the seized firearms or any involvement of Omar’s son.

The raid follows earlier federal scrutiny of Omar’s family. In December, Omar told local media that ICE agents stopped her son after a Target store visit, released him once he produced a U.S. passport, and later entered a mosque where he was praying without making arrests. ICE’s former acting director, Todd Lyons, denied any record of such a stop, accusing Omar of “unfairly demonizing” law-enforcement officers. Abdi’s criminal record includes ten prior convictions—mostly misdemeanors such as speeding, driving without a license, and fleeing police, plus a 2024 felony for extreme speeding.

Minneapolis Police said a traffic stop earlier that day cited Abdi for a canceled license and lack of insurance; a firearm was found in the vehicle during impoundment. The department has not commented on the weapons recovered from the apartment or on any link to Omar’s son. Omar reiterated to WCCO that ICE agents pulled her son over after the Target stop and released him once he showed his passport.

Police have not announced further actions or additional arrests, and no future statements from the department have been scheduled.
