Josh Jacobs Faces Misdemeanor Charges Amid Video-Evidence Claims

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was arrested after a domestic dispute on May 23. Police were called to a Hobart residence, and Jacobs was booked on May 26 by the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department on misdemeanor battery, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, and a felony charge of strangulation-suffocation. He spent one night in jail and was released on a $1,350 bond. The alleged victim’s account says Jacobs grabbed her, threw her to the ground, and took her phone before returning about 40 seconds later.

The same source said the video shows the victim on the garage floor, Jacobs taking her phone, and apparent damage to the device. Packers analyst Zach Kruse echoed the sentiment, tweeting that video proof would require the team to release him.

The league’s spokesperson Brian McCarthy said the NFL is “closely monitoring all developments” and that the matter “remains under review.” A Packers team spokesperson confirmed awareness of the charges and pledged cooperation with the NFL, adding that no further comment would be made at this time. Jacobs’s attorneys stated that the Brown County District Attorney filed misdemeanor charges that “do not include domestic violence” and that the allegations will be addressed in court, not the media.

Under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy, a baseline six-game suspension can be imposed for domestic-violence-related cases, either through league investigation or if the player accepts responsibility. If convicted, Jacobs faces up to 18 months in prison. The Packers have prepared contingency plans, including keeping additional running backs such as MarShawn Lloyd, Chris Brooks, and Pierre Strong Jr.
