Zhejiang-based Micbot, a Chinese robotics manufacturer, is positioning its explosion-proof, AI-driven quadruped robots for use in Saudi Aramco’s oilfields, petrochemical complexes and mines. The company’s chief marketing officer, Huang Ziyan, said the machines are built to replace human workers in extreme environments, offering a “four-in-one” protection package—antimagnetic, explosion-proof, waterproof and freeze-resistant.
Design Features and Competitive Position
Micbot’s robots feature a low-centre-of-gravity chassis with wheeled-leg locomotion, enabling them to carry heavy payloads while withstanding strong magnetic fields, high temperatures, dust, and submersion. Unlike consumer-oriented robot makers that focus on educational or companion devices, Micbot emphasizes durability for demanding industrial tasks.
Progress Toward Saudi Deployment
Aramco executives and technicians have visited Micbot’s research and development centre in Zhejiang four times since February, providing input that has been incorporated into the latest prototypes. The robots are undergoing rigorous testing in China, and Micbot expects to ship the first batch to Saudi Arabia in September or October. Aramco will evaluate the units and deliver feedback before deciding on mass procurement by the end of the year.
Hong Kong IPO Ambitions
In parallel with its overseas sales push, Micbot is preparing for an initial public offering in Hong Kong next year. The listing is intended to fund further R&D and expand the company’s global footprint, signaling confidence in the market demand for robust industrial automation solutions.
