Background of Swedish Support

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Sweden has provided roughly 157 billion kronor (about $14 billion) in combined military and civilian aid to Ukraine. Recent assistance includes a 24.6-billion-krona intergovernmental agreement for 16 Saab JAS 39 Gripen E fighter jets, with deliveries expected from 2029 onward, and a 12.9-billion-krona package focused on air-defence systems. Earlier this year, Stockholm allocated more than 270 million kronor (?$28.4 million) to Ukraine’s defence, primarily for air-defence and the NATO-run PURL programme that channels U.S. weapons to Kyiv.
