Neymar’s Company Pays Santos’ Debt, Lifting Transfer Ban

Santos FC has cleared a €2 million debt owed to AS Monaco, ending a FIFA-imposed transfer ban that had prevented the Brazilian club from registering new players. The payment was made with financial assistance from NR Sports, the sports-marketing firm owned by Neymar’s family.

The dispute originated when Santos failed to pay the final €2 million instalment for the permanent transfer of midfielder Jean Lucas to Monaco. FIFA ruled in May 2025 that Santos had 45 days to settle the outstanding amount plus €32,876 in interest, or face a ban that could span up to three consecutive registration periods. The club’s inability to meet the deadline triggered the sanction, barring it from both national and international player registrations.

NR Sports, founded in 2006 by Neymar’s parents to manage the player’s career, provided the funds that allowed Santos to satisfy the debt. Neymar, who rejoined Santos in January 2025, has been instrumental in the club’s recent on-field resurgence and represented Brazil at the 2026 World Cup. The company’s support is described as an “immediate injection of funds,” and the parties plan to negotiate jointly on unsold kit-sponsorship rights.
