Historical Context

In 2004 the NFL began its International Development Practice Squad Program, which ended in 2009; after a 2016 trial led by Aden Durde and Osi Umenyiora, the league launched the International Player Pathway in 2017, assigning each team an extra practice-squad slot. The Eagles used that slot for Kenyan convert Joshua Weru, part of the inaugural 16-player, 12-country cohort.
