Kamala Harris Endorses Chris Pappas in New Hampshire Senate Primary

Former Vice President Kamala Harris announced her endorsement of Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH) for the open U.S. Senate seat. The endorsement was made on Monday, eight days before New Hampshire’s primary.

Pappas entered the Democratic primary as the best-known candidate, having secured labor-union and abortion-rights group endorsements. His lead over socialist challenger Dr. Karishma Manzur has narrowed: WMUR reports the gap fell from more than 50 points to under 20 points in recent polls, while the University of New Hampshire poll cited by the Washington Examiner shows Manzur trailing by 13 points. Harris, the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, won New Hampshire by nearly three points over President Donald Trump in the 2024 election and is widely viewed as a potential 2028 presidential contender.

Several Democratic candidates have deliberately distanced themselves from Harris. Alaska Senate hopeful Mary Peltola rejected an unsolicited fundraising email from Harris’s Fight for the People PAC, and Iowa Senate candidate Josh Turek said Harris should not be campaigning for him. Iowa gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand echoed Turek’s sentiment, indicating a broader reluctance among some Democrats to align with Harris in red-leaning states.
