Luigi Mangione’s Federal Plea Negotiations Unveiled

Luigi Mangione, a 28-year-old defendant, faces federal stalking charges tied to the December 2024 killing of United Healthcare chief executive Brian Thompson at a Manhattan healthcare conference. Prosecutors say Mangione followed Thompson to the event and shot him outside the hotel. The federal case, overseen by Judge Margaret Garnett, featured a series of sealed hearings. An emergency hearing on June 12 (occurred) addressed Mangione’s request to postpone deadlines while his lawyers prepared a possible plea change. Mangione is required to appear in state court by December 10 (deadline), and his federal sentencing is set for December 18 (scheduled).
