Carney Announces Rail
- Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a $4.7 billion investment to build 313 VIA Rail cars.
- The cars will be built in Thunder Bay and La Pocatière, Québec, Canada’s first rail car production in 40 years.
- Transport Minister Steven McKinnon said the project will create 700 jobs and generate $1.6 billion benefits.
- Carney said the investment supports the Buy Canadian policy as the U.S. imposes 50 % tariffs on $28 billion of Canadian goods.
